Signal at Center and Third Street in Hannibal Will Be Covered Up

HANNIBAL – The signal on Missouri Route 79, also known as Third Street in Hannibal, and at the intersection of Center Street, will be covered in the upcoming days by the Missouri Department of Transportation. After a traffic study showed a change in traffic volume, MoDOT changed the lights to flash.

“We have heard the flashing can be confusing to drivers, so we are moving to the next step of evaluating the need for the signals by covering them up and relying on the stop signs on Center Street,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner, P.E.

There will be continued evaluation of the intersection and coordination with the city to determine what the next steps should be moving forward.

The signals at this intersection were installed in the 1940’s.

Please remember to always use caution when driving and put down your cell phone to help eliminate distractions.
