Springfield, Greene County – A project to rebuild the deteriorating concrete pavement at four separate locations on Glenstone Avenue in Springfield is scheduled to resume following the Labor Day holiday weekend, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Contractor crews plan to start on Glenstone Avenue underneath the railroad overpass north of Commercial Street.
Drivers can expect lane closings in each direction ‘round the clock as contractor crews remove the old, deteriorating concrete and replace it with new pavement. One lane in each direction will remain open. However, traffic may be shifted away from where crews are working.
Here’s a look at the schedule for replacing the remaining two sections of 1950’s-era concrete pavement:
- Week of Sept. 3, ‘round the clock lane closings on Glenstone Avenue underneath the railroad bridge north of Commercial Street.
- Week of Sept. 10, ‘round the clock lane closings on Glenstone Avenue on either side of the railroad crossing between Lombard and Page streets.
- Side streets in areas where crews are working may be closed at times.
- Contractor crews will work to rebuild entrances, but will work with businesses to complete the work to avoid major disruptions for customers.
Work at the Glenstone Avenue intersections with Kearney Street and with Evergreen/Kerr Street were completed in mid-July. However, crews may finish up needed sidewalk work at the Glenstone/Kearney intersection. Drivers can expect nighttime lane closings between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The Glenstone Avenue pavement rebuild project includes replacing deteriorating 1950’s-era concrete pavement in four separate locations between I-44 and Grand Street in Springfield.
- At Evergreen Street south of I-44 -- COMPLETED
- At Kearney Street -- COMPLETED
- Underneath the railroad overpass north of Commercial Street
- Between Lombard and Page streets
The estimated total project cost is $3.7 million.
The prime contractor is Millstone Weber, LLC. of St. Charles.
The completion date of the project is November 1, 2018. However, the contractor plans to have the project completed by early fall.
