Traffic Volumes Expected to Increase in Columbia This Weekend

The combination of the Labor Day holiday weekend and the first home football game for the University of Missouri is expected to increase traffic volumes in the Columbia area this weekend.  The Missouri Department of Transportation will have staff on hand to handle emergency maintenance situations or to help the Missouri State Highway Patrol with traffic control if needed.

“We always have a presence during home football games due to the volume of traffic, especially on Stadium Boulevard and Providence Road,” said Assistant Central District Engineer Natalie Roark.  “Our crews have been busy this week, making sure state routes are clean, clear and safe. We will also have staff on site to assist with traffic control and emergency situations.”

MoDOT maintenance and construction work will be suspended at noon on Friday, in advance of the holiday weekend.

Motorists are encouraged to check road conditions by visiting the Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org or by calling MoDOT’s customer service center at 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (888-275-6636).  The toll-free telephone line is answered 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
