Signals at U.S. Route 61 and Route U in Moscow Mills to Change

HANNIBAL – This week, drivers using the Route U interchange at U.S. Route 61 in Moscow Mills will notice a change to the traffic signal.  The signal will flash a yellow left turn signal instead of presenting a green turn signal.  The flashing yellow turn signal allows drivers to turn left when there is no oncoming traffic, without having to wait for a green turn signal.

“We heard concerns the signal was taking too long to change, and the protected left turn presented by the green turn signal are not necessary for the current traffic volume,” explained Missouri Department of Transportation Traffic Operations Engineer Rob Frese, P.E.

He went on to explain that these signals will be similar to those at Missouri Route 47 and Fairgrounds Road in Troy.

While the change is being made, the traffic signals at Route U will be on flash.  Frese asks driver to use caution, and treat the intersection as a four-way stop sign when all the signals are flashing.   “As at any intersection, signalized or not, please give your full attention to driving and watch for traffic, put your phone down and be sure your seat belt is on,” Frese added.
