HANNIBAL – Sometime during the week of September 17, the Missouri Department of Transportation will incorporate a change in the traffic signal on Missouri Route 47 and Routes MM/M in Warrenton from the current dedicated right turn green arrow to a green ball. “The southbound and eastbound signals are being changed to be in compliance with regulations,” said MoDOT Traffic Operations Engineer Rob Frese, P.E.
In addition, because this is a pedestrian crossing, a sign will be installed with directions stating drivers wishing to turn right must yield to pedestrians. “Drivers on eastbound Route MM/M and southbound Missouri 47 will need to pay attention to pedestrians, because this change will allow drivers to make a right turn, which is also a pedestrian crossing,” Frese explained. He reminds drivers that pedestrians always have the right of way.
While the change is being made, the traffic signals at the intersection will be on flash. Frese asks driver to use caution, and treat the intersection as a four-way stop sign when all the signals are flashing. “As at any intersection, signalized or not, please give your full attention to driving and watch for traffic, put your phone down and be sure your seat belt is on,” Frese added.
