Bridge Rehabilitations in Miller and Cole Counties Scheduled to Begin September 10

MILLER/COLE COUNTY – A project to improve nine bridges in Miller County and Cole County along U.S. Route 54 begins Monday, September 10 with the rehabilitation of the westbound Route 54 bridge over Little Gravois Creek. Built in 1966, this bridge is approximately seven miles south of Eldon and approximately 0.3 miles west of Route V in Miller County.

The work on the bridge will reduce westbound Route 54 traffic over Little Gravois Creek to one lane around the clock through the end of October. Work involves deck repairs and the application of a new concrete wearing surface.

Electronic message boards are installed in the area to warn motorists of the lane closure. Drivers should adjust travel times accordingly during peak travel times.

The bridge rehabilitation is part of a larger plan by the Missouri Department of Transportation to improve and extend the life of nine total bridges between Brazito and the Lake of the Ozarks during the next ten months.

The other bridges are:

  • Route 54 eastbound and westbound over Wrights Creek (both built in 1972)
  • Route 54 eastbound and westbound over Old Tuscumbia Road (both built in 1973)
  • Route 54 eastbound over the Rock Island Railroad, east of Route 87 (built in 1973)
  • Route 54 eastbound and westbound over Business Route 54 (both built in 1973)
  • Route 17 over Route 54 (built in 1972)

The second and third bridges to be rehabilitated as part of this project will be eastbound and westbound Route 54 bridges over Wrights Creek. The entire project is expected to be complete by the end of June in 2019.
