Construction of Roundabout at Fairlawn Ave. & Elk Street

In Carthage Focus of Sept. 13 Public Meeting

Carthage – Area residents are invited to review and make comments on a plan to install a roundabout at the intersection of Fairlawn Avenue (Missouri Route 571) and Elk Street in Carthage at a public meeting Thursday, Sept. 13, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

 

The meeting is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. at the Carthage City Hall Council Chambers, 326 Grant Street. The meeting will be come-and-go style with NO formal presentation. Those who attend the in-person meeting can visit any time between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to meet with MoDOT representatives and ask questions about the project construction timeline and traffic impacts.

Project Highlights:

  • Install a roundabout at the five-way intersection of Fairlawn Ave., Elk St. and Garrison Ave to improve safety and traffic flow
  • Project is a 50-50 cost-share with the City of Carthage
  • Estimated total project cost: $1.1 million

The project is scheduled for construction in 2020.
