HANNIBAL – The 2018 Highway Safety and Traffic Blueprint Conference was held this week in Columbia, with more than 400 safe driving partners from around the state attending the bi-annual awards luncheon where “Zero Heroes” were recognized for their efforts to work towards zero deaths on Missouri roads.
The Northeast Region Coalition for Roadway Safety selected Atlanta C-3 School as its Arrive Alive Award winner for both the quantity and quality of safe driving events they hold for the students throughout the entire school, including creating their own mascot “Highway Harvey.” Atlanta School Nurse Teri Majors and one of her students accepted the award on behalf of the school. Majors previously won an award for her efforts to bring the “Arrive Alive” program to the school several years ago.
The Northeast Regional Show-Me Safety Award winner was John Wise, news personality and former emergency medical services responder, for his efforts and passion to promote the “Drive Means Drive” campaign through the KTUF/KIRX/KRXL radio station. Wise was surprised with the award as general manager for the radio station told him they had to attend a meeting in Columbia. Also a surprise was the attendance of his wife, Marsha.
“We appreciate all our partners who continue to work toward zero fatalities on Missouri roads, and we are especially proud of the efforts of Atlanta School and Mr. Wise,” said NE Coalition Facilitator Marisa Ellison.
