LACLEDE COUNTY – Blasting operations for the Interstate 44 Outer Road bridge project near Hazelgreen in Laclede County will periodically close I-44 in both directions near the 143-mile marker beginning the week of Monday, Sept. 17.
Blasting closures will take place daily between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday thru Friday for approximately one month. During this work, both the eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed for no more than 15 minutes at a time. The eastbound rolling roadblock will begin at exit 135 to MM 143. The westbound rolling roadblock will start at exit 150 to MM 143. Signs are in place on I-44 to give motorists warning of the possibility of periodic closures.
The blasting operation will clear the area for the construction of the new I-44 Outer Road bridge on a new alignment between the existing Gasconade River Bridge, located along Historic Route 66, and the I-44 bridges across the river. The current bridge was closed to traffic in December 2014 due to extensive deterioration.
