MILLER COUNTY – The Miller/Cole County U.S. Route 54 bridge improvement project continues Monday, September 24 with the rehabilitation of the westbound and eastbound Route 54 bridges over Wrights Creek. The bridges, built in 1972, are located five miles northeast of Lake Ozark in Miller County.
The work on the bridges will reduce eastbound and westbound Route 54 traffic to one lane in each direction around the clock through mid-November. Work involves deck repairs and the application of a new concrete overlay.
Electronic message boards are installed in the area to warn motorists of the lane closures. Drivers should adjust travel times accordingly during peak travel times.
The bridge rehabilitations are part of a larger plan by the Missouri Department of Transportation to improve and extend the life of nine total bridges between Brazito and the Lake of the Ozarks during the next ten months.
Rehabilitation work is currently active on the westbound Route 54 bridge over Little Gravois Creek. The bridge is located about seven miles south of Eldon and approximately 0.3 miles west of Route V in Miller County. Westbound Route 54 traffic is reduced to one lane in the work area through the end of October.
The other bridges included in the project are:
- Route 54 eastbound and westbound over Old Tuscumbia Road (both constructed in 1973)
- Route 54 eastbound over the Rock Island Railroad, east of Route 87 (built in 1973)
- Route 54 eastbound and westbound over Business Route 54 (both constructed in 1973)
- Route 17 over Route 54 (built in 1972)
The entire project is expected to be complete by the end of June in 2019.
