MoDOT HAS CANCELLED Significant Lane and Ramp Closures on I-435 from Three Trails Crossing to 104th Street Bridge for Oct. 5 through Oct. 7
KANSAS CITY – The Missouri Department of Transportation has CANCELLED multiple lane and ramp closures for Friday evening, Oct. 5, through early Sunday morning, Oct. 7, on Interstate 435 between Three Trails Crossing and the 104th Street Bridge.
Due to increased concern of heavy thunderstorm activity including lightning and high winds, crews have decided to reschedule this work.
Lightning poses some risk to the personnel working on top of the bridge. High winds have been known to topple over Arrow Panels, Changeable Message boards, knock down signing, displace Trim Line devices and flip Traffic Barricades. Due to the complexity of working near the Three Trails Crossing interchange, there are an inordinately high number of these devices deployed for this work. The safety of the traveling public and the workers could be significantly compromised by thunderstorms which are predicted to occur during the core of the work hours for this weekend.
The work has been tentatively rescheduled for the weekend of Oct. 19-21. This work is for a repair on the Blue River Bridge, one of the several bridges undergoing replacement or rehabilitation as part of the I-435 South Loop Link project. The bridge has multiple failed bearings that are in need of replacement, although the bridge deck joint will undergo rehab work at a later date. The Missouri Department of Transportation urges all motorists to always wear safety belts, follow posted speed limits and be alert for slowed traffic, narrowed lanes or a reduced number of lanes during construction and maintenance work. And remember, every work zone is a NO PHONE ZONE.
