ST. LOUIS – People heading into downtown or Illinois this weekend should consider using I-70 or I-255/I-270, using rideshare or carpooling or taking Metro as MoDOT will close eastbound I-64 between Jefferson Avenue and Illinois Route 3.
Weather permitting, crews will be replacing an expansion joint that crosses all eastbound I-64 lanes over the Mississippi River during the closure.
Beginning Friday, October 12, crews will close:
- The ramp from eastbound I-44/northbound I-55 to eastbound I-64 will close at 7 p.m. The detour to Illinois/I-64 will be marked.
- The ramp from 8th Street to eastbound I-44/northbound I-55 will be closed. Truck traffic in Soulard should use Arsenal to get to the interstate.
- Eastbound I-64 at Jefferson at 8 p.m. The detour will be marked.
- The ramps from Pine Street and 6th Street to eastbound I-64 will close at 7 p.m.
- The ramps from eastbound I-64 to 20th/Chestnut, 14th, 11th and 6th streets will not be available as they are in the closed portion of the interstate.
The eastbound ramps and lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, October 15.
In addition, during the weekend, crews will open the left lane on westbound I-64 and close the two right lanes on westbound I-64 across the Poplar Street Bridge, starting at 9 a.m. October 13. In addition, the ramp from northbound Illinois Route 3 to westbound I-64 will be closed at 8 a.m. October 13. This will have an impact on morning commutes into St. Louis. Illinois drivers should consider Metro, the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge, the Eads Bridge or the McKinley Bridge to get into the city. The two lanes and ramp will remain closed through mid-November while crews work on half of the expansion joints for the westbound I-64 bridge.
