MoDOT to close eastbound I-64 at Jefferson this weekend

Two westbound I-64 lanes across PSB remain closed for three weeks

ST. LOUIS – People heading into downtown St. Louis or Illinois this weekend should consider using I-70 or I-255/I-270, using rideshare or carpooling or taking Metro while the Missouri Department of Transportation closes eastbound I-64 between Jefferson Ave. and Illinois Route 3.

Weather permitting, crews will be replacing an expansion joint that crosses all eastbound I-64 lanes over the Mississippi River during the closure.

Beginning Friday, Oct. 12, crews will close:

  • The ramp from eastbound I-44/northbound I-55 to eastbound I-64 will close at 7 p.m. The detour to Illinois/I-64 will be marked.
  • The ramp from 8th St. to eastbound I-44/northbound I-55 will be closed. Truck traffic in Soulard should use Arsenal to get to the interstate.
  • Eastbound I-64 at Jefferson at 8 p.m. The detour will be marked.
  • The ramps from Pine St. and 6th St. to eastbound I-64 will close at 7 p.m.
  • The ramps from eastbound I-64 to 20th/Chestnut, 14th, 11th and 6th streets will not be available as they are in the closed portion of the interstate.

The eastbound ramps and lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15.

In addition, during the weekend, crews will open the left lane on westbound I-64 and close the two right lanes on westbound I-64 across the Poplar Street Bridge, starting at 9 a.m. Oct. 13. In addition, the ramp from northbound Illinois Route 3 to westbound I-64 will be closed at 8 a.m. Oct. 13. This will have an impact on morning commutes into St. Louis. Illinois drivers should consider Metro, the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge, the Eads Bridge or the McKinley Bridge to get into the city. The two lanes and ramp will remain closed through mid-November while crews work on half of the expansion joints for the westbound I-64 bridge.
