MILLER COUNTY – The Miller/Cole County U.S. Route 54 bridge improvement project continues Monday, October 29 with the rehabilitation of the Route 54 eastbound bridge over Rock Island Railroad. The bridge, built in 1973, is located just east of Missouri Route 87 in Eldon.
The work on the bridge will reduce eastbound Route 54 traffic to one lane around the clock through mid-December. Work involves deck repairs and the application of a new concrete overlay.
Electronic message boards are installed in the area to warn motorists of the lane closures. Drivers should adjust travel plans accordingly during peak travel times.
The bridge rehabilitations are part of a larger plan by the Missouri Department of Transportation to improve and extend the life of nine total bridges between Brazito and the Lake of the Ozarks during the next ten months.
The other bridges included in the project are:
- Route 54 eastbound and westbound over Old Tuscumbia Road (both constructed in 1973)
- Route 54 eastbound and westbound over Wrights Creek, located five miles northeast of Lake Ozark (built in 1972)
- Route 54 eastbound and westbound over Business Route 54 (both constructed in 1973)
- Route 17 over Route 54 (built in 1972)
The entire project is expected to be complete by the end of June in 2019.
