Update on U.S. 61/McMasters Avenue Project in Hannibal

HANNIBAL – Although there will be a delay in resurfacing U.S. Route 61/McMasters Avenue until next spring, various aspects of the project are complete including new sidewalks, guardrail and drainage.  New truss-style signs have been installed, and the contractor will continue with some minor cleanup work, along with other off-road details.  The permanent traffic signal poles for the intersections at Stardust and West Ely are expected to arrive and be installed in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

“A requirement of our contractor is the resurfacing to be done during nighttime hours due to traffic volume, and to get a quality product, temperatures need to remain relatively mild,” explained Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Brian Haeffner, P.E.  “Due to scheduling conflicts, the contractor has been unable to do the resurfacing and will proceed next spring,” Haeffner added.

New striping and pavement markings that were going to be done with the resurfacing were done this week.  “The striping is an important safety feature and with us going into winter, we want to ensure they are visible,” Haeffner said.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and have been extremely pleased, especially with local residents for their concern about safety in the work zone throughout the project,” Haeffner added.
