MAYVIEW – The Missouri Department of Transportation has scheduled bridge demolition work on I-70 near Mayveiw, MO to take place next week. Beginning Monday morning, Nov 12, crews will REDUCE traffic on I-70 to one lane in each direction and begin demolition on the Route H bridge. Interstate traffic will be routed over the bridge ramps until 6 a.m. on Nov. 14. At that point, I-70 traffic will be restored to two lanes but the Route H bridge and ramps will remain CLOSED through June 2019.
These lane reductions WILL impact I-70 traffic. Consider alternative routes. Review traffic impacts on MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at http://traveler.modot.org and review camera at mile marker 49.2
This work is part of the bridge project will replace Route E and Route H bridges over the next few months. The Route E bridges – currently under construction -- were originally built in 1959, widened in 1988 and rehabilitated in 2012. The Route H bridge was constructed in 1960. In January 2013, the bridge received a deck rating and superstructure rating of 3 (serious condition) and was slated for replacement. More than 30,000 drivers cross through this stretch of I-70 every day so keeping the interstate smooth and safe is paramount.
The Missouri Department of Transportation urges all motorists to always wear safety belts, follow posted speed limits and be alert for slowed traffic, narrowed lanes or a reduced number of lanes during construction and maintenance work. And remember, every work zone is a NO PHONE ZONE.
