LEE’S SUMMIT – Two Missouri Department of Transportation maintenance workers suffered injuries after a motorist struck them in a work zone. It happened Wednesday morning, January 9 near 169 Highway on Route KK in Clay County. Crewmembers were picking up highway signs when the motorists struck one of the workers with their vehicle.
That worker was briefly pinned beneath the vehicle. Thankfully, crewmembers on the scene were able to quickly remove the vehicle off of him. A second crewmember was also injured when the motorist’s vehicle struck the maintenance truck in which the worker was sitting. Both crewmembers have been taken to the hospital where they are being evaluated. It’s believe their injuries are not life threatening.
Just last week in St Louis, two MoDOT crews were involved in crashes while they were picking up large debris. The crashes involved MoDOT’s TMAs (buffer trucks) on two consecutive days. No one was seriously hurt in either crash.
It’s imperative that motorists pay close attention while driving, especially in work zones. Remember to Buckle Up, Phone Down whenever you get behind the wheel. MoDOT also encourages all motorists to slow down, eliminate distractions and drive safely to ensure everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
