Improvements to sidewalks and pedestrian facilities along two roadways in Columbia have been approved by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. At its meeting today, the commission awarded a contract to upgrade sidewalks and pedestrian facilities along the following areas:
- Route 163 (Providence Road), between Route K and Vandiver Drive.
- Route 763 (College Avenue), between Route 740 (Stadium Boulevard) and Business Loop 70.
The work will put the existing deficient sidewalks in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Sam Gaines Construction submitted the low bid of $3,550,798.
The work is scheduled to begin this summer. When work begins, motorists can expect occasional temporary lane and entrance closures. When a start date is established, MoDOT will alert the public about the project through signs, news releases, and social media.
