ST. LOUIS – St. Louis crews are already preparing for another round of snow scheduled to come in this weekend.
Crews are treating the roads today to prepare for the snow coming in late Saturday, in addition to some residual material on the roadway.
The National Weather Service is predicting that snow will move into the area late Saturday evening with roughly 4-6 inches of snow falling between then and when the snow moves out Sunday afternoon.
“People who are heading down to the Mardi Gras parade or other activities should consider heading down on Metro and using the shuttle to get to activities downtown. They should also consider making sure they head out before the snow starts on Saturday evening,” said Bob Becker, St. Louis District Maintenance Engineer.
“Once the snow starts, we do encourage staying off the road, if possible, to give trucks more room to work efficiently while clearing the roads. One of the bigger concerns this weekend will be the quickly dropping temperatures forecast for after the snow leaves. Temperatures overnight Sunday into Monday will be into the single digits. Any treatments we put down after the storm will be much less effective in those cold temperatures,”said Becker.
MoDOT will have full crews on the road, starting Saturday evening, with more than 200 trucks on the road plowing during the snowfall and treating roads after the snow has ended.
Motorists are encouraged to play close attention to weather conditions before any traveling. For real-time roadway weather conditions, visit the Traveler Information map at http://traveler.modot.org/map/index.html.
