I-35 and Route 152 Interchange Improvement Project set to begin in Liberty

CLAY COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will soon begin the I-35 and Route 152 Interchange Improvement Project in Liberty, MO. Crews will begin placing concrete barriers as soon as Friday, March 15. More specific details of road closures and alternative routes will be announced at a later date.

The is all part of a project to replace the Route 152 Bridge over I-35, make improvements to Kansas Street and Route 291, including adding wider lanes and additional turn lanes. The project will also address bicycle and pedestrian needs along the corridor, and a multiple-use path along the south side of Route 152 and Kansas Street. The bridge on Route 152 over I-35 is scheduled to be closed in late May 2019 for demolition. A new bridge will be erected in its place and should be open within four months of its closure.

The project is expected to be completed in 2020. This project is in partnership with the Cities of Liberty and Kansas City. All work is weather dependent.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
