Work Begins on New Route 32/Cedar Creek Bridge

West of Stockton March 21

Cedar County – Drivers can expect contractor crews and equipment close to traffic on Missouri Route 32 near Cedar Creek west of Stockton starting Thursday, March 21, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will begin by clearing brush and prepping the site for construction of a new bridge over Cedar Creek and the straightening of Route 32 approaching the new structure.

The new bridge will be 32 feet wide and 300 feet long, 12 feet wider and 12 feet longer than the current bridge. The new bridge also will be built west of the existing bridge to allow contractor crews to eliminate four sharp curves approaching the bridge.

Drivers will experience few traffic impacts during construction until late in the project when contractor crews will close Route 32 for approximately two weeks to connect the new bridge into the newly constructed roadway.

The existing bridge was built in 1930 and is experiencing increasing deterioration. Approximately 1,900 vehicles cross the bridge daily.

Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.
