Natural Bridge (Route 115) Great Streets Project

What is the project?

The Natural Bridge Great Streets project was created to reduce the number of lanes on Natural Bridge Road in Normandy and near the University of Missouri St Louis in order to calm traffic and improve access to other transportation options (such as cycling, walking and mass transit).

The Missouri Department of Transportation partnered with UMSL, the City of Normandy, Great Rivers Greenway, St. Louis County, East West Gateway Council of Governments and North County Inc. on this project. MoDOT overseen the project design, project management and construction for the project.

Plans for this project included a roundabout at Natural Bridge and Florissant Road. The roundabout creates a smoother and safer flow of traffic between the two roadways allowing access from businesses to the south. In addition, it creates a focal point for the community.

MoDOT contributed nearly $13 million for design, right of way acquisition, utility relocation and construction.
