(updated April 26, 2018) The lanes on eastbound and westbound I-44 are narrowed at Route 50 through the duration of the project.  Drivers will have two, 10-foot lanes with no inside shoulder on eastbound I-44 and one 11-foot and one 12-foot lane on westbound I-44.  Please use caution when traveling through the area.

What is the problem on I-44 at Route 50?

The eastbound I-44 bridge over Route 50 is old and in need of repairs.  MoDOT will replace the bridge with a new, wider bridge.

How will traffic be impacted during construction?

The work will require off-peak, overnight and weekend lane closures.  In addition, the lanes on both eastbound and westbound I-44 will be narrowed at Route 50 through the duration of the project.  There will also be some overnight full closures of Route 50 and on I-44.  Details of those closures will be posted above when they become available.

When will the project start and when will it be completed?

The project began in March 2018 and is expected to be completed in late October 2018.

What is the cost of the project?

The project was awarded to Millstone Weber for $4.9 million.

What else is being done on I-44 in Franklin County?

Other projects this construction season on I-44 include:

  • Pavement improvements between Route 30 and the Crawford County line.  That project will have one lane closed during off-peak times (from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.)  Work runs July 2018 through fall 2019.
