About the Project
MoDOT will be replacing the northbound and southbound I-435 bridges over 87th Street. The existing bridges, constructed in 1967, are in poor condition and have reached the end of their service lives.
This project is scheduled to be let in October 2022 and construction is anticipated to begin in spring/summer 2023.
The estimate cost of construction is $6 million and is funded through both state and federal funds.
Traffic Impacts and Detours
I-435 will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes in each direction during construction. Lanes and shoulders will be narrowed and a median crossover will be used to construct the bridges independently. All ramps will be open to traffic during construction. 87th Street will be CLOSED under the bridge intermittently during construction. I-435 single lane closures will occur to construct and remove the temporary median crossover used for construction.
Phase 1
- During construction, both southbound and northbound I-435 traffic will be on the southbound bridge while the northbound I-435 bridge will be removed and replaced.
Phase 2
- After the construction of the northbound bridge, both southbound and northbound I-435 traffic will be on the northbound bridge while the southbound I-435 bridge is removed and replaced.
