A new Interstate 44 Outer Road bridge over the Gasconade River west of Hazelgreen in Laclede County is under construction. The project includes building a new bridge on a new alignment between the old Gasconade River Bridge on Historic Route 66 and the I-44 bridges across the river.
Current Traffic Impacts:
Intermittent lane closures and traffic delays are possible this fall on I-44 as work progresses.
In addition, construction crews plan to build a causeway to haul material from the west side of the Gasconade River to the east side. This will restrict navigational traffic on the river after Labor Day weekend.
Access for property owners will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. Construction of the new bridge will take about one year to complete. Estimated completion date is August 2019.
The total cost of this project is approximately $5 million.
Why is this work necessary?
The old bridge was built in 1927. It was closed in December of 2014 due to extensive deterioration.
