The Missouri Department of Transportation has designed a new diamond interchange on Riverview Drive (Route H) at I-270. The interchange is being reconstructed in required combination with the Illinois Department of Transportation's (IDOT) proposed project to replace the I-270 Mississippi River Bridge (I-270MRB).

When will construction begin?

Construction will begin at the end of 2022.

What will be the impact to traffic?

During construction, the Riverview Drive entrance ramp to eastbound I-270 will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023. The ramp will remain closed through July 2024.  There will be signed detours for the closure.  Drivers who normally use the Riverview entrance ramp to eastbound I-270 will be detoured to westbound I-270, exit at Lilac Ave., go left over the Lilac Ave. bridge, and exit back on to eastbound I-270.  The detour is approximately two miles.

What is expected after construction?

The Riverview Drive interchange will be reconstructed to six lanes of traffic as same as the lanes of traffic proposed in the Mississippi River Bridge project. The interchange and the new bridge will be striped for four lanes initially but will eventually be constructed to six lanes of traffic when I-270, east and west of Riverview Drive, are widened to six traffic lanes.

Who is the contractor for the project?

The project has been awarded to Walsh.
