Purpose and Need/What's the Problem?

Davis Boulevard at Jasper County Route FF (32nd Street) in Joplin needs to be relocated to make room for a future project to build a bridge over the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Railroad.

Project Information:

Contractor crews will relocate Davis Boulevard at Jasper County Route FF (32nd Street) nearly 1,000 feet to the east and connect it to Stephens Boulevard to make way for a new bridge in the future over the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Railroad. The contractor also will add a traffic signal at Route FF (32nd Street) and Stephens Boulevard.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the need for this project?

Davis Boulevard must be realigned to the east to Stephens Boulevard to provide access when MoDOT constructs a new bridge over the CPKC Railroad crossing in 2027.  The existing Davis Boulevard intersection at Route FF is too close to the future bridge location.

How will traffic be impacted during construction?

Traffic will be able to access existing Davis Boulevard and Stephens Boulevard while most of the construction takes place.  When the new road is connected to existing Davis Boulevard, the existing intersection at Route FF will be permanently closed and traffic will be detoured to Range Line Road and then to 20th Street.  When the final connection to Stephens Boulevard is made, traffic will be detoured to Doughboy Drive.

Will any property be impacted?

The new construction will require acquisition of permanent right-of-way and temporary easements from five property owners.  Please review the exhibits for additional information.  If you are impacted, MoDOT will be contacting you soon.

This area is primarily industrial with heavy traffic. Will the new road accommodate this traffic?

MoDOT is working closely with the City of Joplin to construct a new Davis Boulevard with wider lanes and turning radii as well as heavy duty pavement to support the large semi-trucks that regularly use the road.

How much does the project cost and when will construction happen?

The project is estimated to cost about $2.3 million and is scheduled for construction in 2025.
