Purpose and Need / What's the Problem:

The Route M/Bear Creek bridge was built in 1953, is only a single lane and is experiencing deterioration. Approximately 755 vehicles use the bridge daily.

The Route AA/Turkey Creek bridge was built in 1961, has two narrow lanes and is experiencing deterioration. Approximately 165 vehicles use the bridge daily.

Both bridges need to be replaced with wider bridges that meet today’s standard designs.

Project Information:

Route M/Bear Creek bridge: Contractor crews will replace the current single-lane bridge with a new wider bridge accommodating two (2) 12-foot lanes. The new bridge also will have new barrier walls, guardrails and permanent striping. The current bridge is 14 feet wide and 165 feet long.  It is estimated to cost $1.7 million.

Route AA/Turkey Creek bridge: Contractor crews will replace the current bridge with a new 24-foot wide bridge. The current bridge is 20 feet wide and 90 feet long. The new bridge also will have new barrier walls, guardrail and permanent striping.  It is estimated to cost $960,000.

These two bridges will be awarded to one contractor for construction. It’s scheduled for bidding in April 2023.  Once the contract is awarded, additional information will be available from the contractor regarding the schedule for construction and impacts to the public.
