Butler County Safe & Sound Community Briefing

Upcoming Design-Build Bridges to be Discussed

SIKESTON-The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold an open-house community briefing to discuss upcoming Safe & Sound bridge improvement projects in Butler County.  The briefing will be held Thursday, Aug. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley.

"Those interested in the upcoming projects can stop by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the project plans with a member of the Safe & Sound team," said Southeast Regional Field Engineer Andy Meyer.

Upcoming improvements to the Route OO bridge over Inter River Drainage District Ditch No. 16 and the Route AA bridge over Inter River Drainage District Ditch No. 10 will be discussed.

Work to replace the Route OO bridge is expected to begin Sept. 5, weather permitting. As construction is underway, the roadway will remain closed from Route FF to County Road 635. Completion is anticipated in early November.

The project to replace the Route AA bridge is anticipated to begin in October 2011.

Through the Safe & Sound program, over 800 of the state's lowest-rated bridges will be improved by winter 2013.
