MoDOT is removing the crossover due to several factors, including:
- The crossover space between the north and southbound lanes is very narrow which can leave drivers utilizing the crossover exposed to oncoming traffic.
- Sight distance is too short for the types of turning movements that occur at a crossover, which puts drivers at risk.
- Nearby crossovers to the north and to the south afford much greater sight distance and width to accommodate safer turning movements.
Andrew County Proposed Crossover Removal
Before removing the crossover, in January 2020, we reached out to property owners, business owners, and local residents in the immediate vicinity to get their feedback. Crews plan to remove the crossover beginning on Wednesday, June 10. Work could continue through Thursday, June 11. During the removal, one lane of Business U.S. Route 71 in each direction will be closed at County Road 363 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
