39 Bridge Rehabilitations Begin in Rural Northeast Missouri

The Missouri Department of Transportation rebuilt more than 800 bridges approximately 12 years ago in the Safe & Sound Bridges program. The bridges shown in the map and list below were part of that program and each has an asphalt deck rated as fair to good condition. The lifecycle of asphalt is about 10 years. The resurfacing will act as a preservation treatment to ensure the bridges stay in as good as condition as possible.

When rebuilt during the Safe & Sound Bridges program, weep holes were built into the deck for drainage. Over time, run-off from the bridge surface erodes the painted exterior. To ensure the pre-cast, concrete portions of the supporting structures are protected, the bridges are being repainted.

Capital Paving and Construction, LLC has been awarded two Safe and Sound Bridge Program Rehabilitations contracts, both in the Northeast District. All work will be completed by November 1, 2024.

  • In May 2023, a $2,212,656 contract was awarded for 25 bridge rehabilitation projects, located in the northern portion of the NE District, spanning eight counties including Adair, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Macon, Schuyler, Scotland and Shelby. Construction began in July 2023, was suspended for winter then resumed on February 29, 2024 to complete the remainder of the project. These bridges are listed in the Northern Bridge Projects list  below as well as shown on the map with a BLUE bridge icon.
  • In January 2024, a $1,687,765 contract was awarded for 14 bridge rehabilitation projects, located in the southern half of the NE District, spanning six counties including Audrain, Lincoln, Marion, Montgomery, Pike and Ralls. Construction to begin in the Spring of 2024. These bridges are listed in the Southern Bridge Projects list  below as well as shown on the map with a RED bridge icon.

All bridges will be reduced to one lane while crews are actively working during rehabilitation.
