New Interchange at Route 54/Route W in Miller County

Completed in August 2021

A contractor for the Missouri Department of Transportation has completed a new interchange at the intersection of U.S. Route 54 and Business Route 54/Osage Hills Road in Lake Ozark. This is an effort to improve safety at this location. The most recent data states that 32 crashes took place during the last five years at that intersection. 

When: Construction on the new interchange began the week of Monday, February 3, 2020, and was completed in August 2021.  

Cost: Emery Sapp and Sons submitted the low bid of $9,711,377. 

Work Taking Place: The new interchange replaces the former signaled intersection in an effort to increase traffic safety and improve traffic flow. The project involved building two new bridges on Route 54, just west of the existing intersection, as well as three roundabouts near the interchange. Crews also completed grading and paving to incorporate the intersections of Route 54, Business Route 54, Miller County Route W and Osage Hills Road into the interchange.

Commission Approves New Route 54 Interchange

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has approved a contract for the construction of a new interchange along U.S. Route 54 in Lake Ozark. The new interchange will replace the only remaining signalized intersection of Route 54 between Kingdom City and Camdenton. The project will consist of the construction of two new bridges on Route 54, three roundabouts, grading and paving to incorporate the intersections of Route 54, Business Route 54, Route W and Osage Hills Road. Emery Sapp and Sons submitted the low bid of $9,711,377. Work on the interchange is scheduled to begin in early 2020, and is expected to take two years to complete.

Construction Begins - Site Preparation
February 3, 2020

Crews will begin to prep the construction area on the east side of the intersection, near Osage Hills Road. There should little impact to traffic during this first phase of the project, however there could be brief intermittent lane closures as equipment and materials are brought in.

Utility Installment - Business Route 54
April 6 & 7, 2020

As part of building the new interchange, crews will begin making utility changes along Business Route 54. The work will require single lane closures along the roadway north of the Wilmore Lane and Union Electric Road intersection.

The lane closure will take place on Monday, April 6 and Tuesday, April 7 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flaggers will guide traffic through the work zone.

Guardrail Installation & Connection to Temporary Bypass
June 2020

Crews will be making adjustments that connect the current roadway to a temporary bypass. Work includes adding new guard rails and connecting the existing roadway to the bypass.

This work will require single lane closures. Starting Thursday, April 9, the driving lane of eastbound Route 54 will be closed west of the Route W intersection. Crews will also close the westbound passing lane to the east of the Route W intersection, starting on Wednesday, April 15. Both lane closures are expected to be in place for up to three weeks.

Traffic Signal Removal

Removal of traffic signals at the intersection of U.S. Route 54, Business Route 54, Miller County Route W, and Osage Hills Road. The removal of those signals coincides with the opening of the new interchange.
