PROJECT SUMMARY

The Missouri Department of Transportation is rehabbing two bridges over Interstate 70 in Berkeley to provide safety improvements and extend the life of the bridges. The bridges are on Lambert International Blvd.  on-ramp to eastbound I-70 and the James S. McDonnell Blvd. over I-70.

WHEN WILL CONSTRUCTION BEGIN?

Construction will begin in the summer of 2023. The entire project is expected to be completed by fall 2024.

WHAT IS THE COST OF THIS PROJECT?

The project was awarded to Concrete Strategies, LLC for $3.7 Million.

WHAT CONSTRUCTION IMPACTS CAN DRIVERS EXPECT?

James S. McDonnell Blvd. bridge rehab will begin July 2023.  During construction, traffic will only be allowed northbound on the bridge. All lanes that turn south onto McDonnell will be closed. The work is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2023.

After construction is completed on the McDonnell Blvd. bridge rehab, the Lambert International Blvd. ramp to eastbound I-70 bridge rehab will begin. During construction, the I-70 eastbound on-ramp will be closed to traffic and detoured. The work is anticipated to start in 2024 and expected to take four to six months to complete.

At times, there will need to be lane closures on I-70 to complete the bridge repairs.  These lane closures will be confined to nights and will be coordinated with other construction work on the interstate.

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTED DETOURS?

MoDOT uses state-maintained roadways as much as possible, but local drivers may choose to use other routes besides those officially signed as detours.

Drivers originally traveling Lambert International Blvd. to eastbound I-70, will detour by taking a left on Air Cargo Road, right onto James S. McDonnell Blvd, right on Route 115 (Natural Bridge) and take the ramp to eastbound I-70 (slide 2).  Motorists leaving the airport will detour west on Lambert International Blvd. and make a left on Cypress to the I-70 eastbound ramp (slide 3).
