Project Summary
The Missouri Department of Transportation is conducting a corridor study of Route 32, also known as Karsch Boulevard, from Route 67 to Route OO in Farmington. The study will evaluate potential safety, access and traffic operations improvements along the corridor. The study is intended to help identify practical improvements that may reduce traffic conflicts, improve intersection operations, and support safer travel for drivers, pedestrians, businesses, and residents who use the corridor.
Focus areas of the study include:
- Potential Signalized Intersections Improvements
- Maple Valley Dr, Walton Dr/Plaza Square, Potosi St, Washington St, and Route OO
- Potential Unsignalized Intersection Improvements
- Krei Boulevard
- Access Management
- May reduce, consolidate or modify access points along Route 32 to improve safety and traffic flow

Project Area and Key Intersections
1) Route 32 & Maple Valley Drive
Estimated Cost: $650,000 to $750,000
- Modify left turn signals to improve efficiency
- Adjust the intersection layout for better visibility and space for turning
- Extend and widen the southbound right-turn lane to provide more storage and improve vehicle movement
- Change Maple Valley Drive/Valley Creek Drive to right-in/right-out only access in an effort to reduce crashes
2) Route 32 & Walton Drive
Estimated Cost: $775,000 to $875,000
- Add a right-in/right-out access point between Maple Valley Drive and Walton Drive to improve overall traffic operations and improve safety
- Modify left turn signals to improve efficiency
- Adjust the intersection layout to improve visibility and turning
3) Route 32 & Potosi Street
Estimated Cost: $750,000 to $850,000
- Modify left turn signals to improve efficiency
- Adjust the intersection layout to improve visibility and increase turning space
- Add sidewalks and signalized crosswalks to improve pedestrian access and safety
- Add signage and curb at Walgreens entrance to reinforce that is an entrance only at that location
4) Route 32 & Washington St (Route D)
Estimated Cost: $400,000 to $500,000
- Modify left turn signals to improve efficiency
- Modify northbound approach configuration to improve left-turn operations and visibility
- Update intersection islands and pavement markings to better guide vehicles through the intersection
- Replace the sidewalk ramp in the southeast corner due to poor condition
- Add guardrail to protect culvert headwall along Route 32
5) Route 32 & Krei Boulevard
Estimated Cost: $100,000 to $150,000
- Improve the angle of the intersection’s southbound approach in order to provide drivers with a better view of traffic before entering the intersection
- Add a raised island to create a channelized right-turn lane
6) Route 32 & Route OO/Sainte Genevieve Road
Estimated Cost: $450,000 to $550,000
- Update the northbound and southbound right-turn lanes to improve driver visibility
- Improve sight lines for drivers traveling through the intersection
What are the Next Steps?
MoDOT will use the study to evaluate alternatives and determine which improvements should be advanced for additional planning, design, and public coordination. No final decisions have been made regarding intersection improvements or access changes. The project is not funded for construction at this time.
