Project Summary

MoDOT is implementing a project to address the aging pavement, traffic signals, and sidewalks along Natural Bridge Road (Route 115) from west of I-170 to east of N. Hanley Rd.  As part of the project, existing sidewalks along the corridor will be upgraded to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Constructing new sidewalks will also provide a continuous pedestrian accessible route along the corridor.

Improvements for this portion of the corridor will include:

  • Pavement resurfacing and new pavement markings along the corridor
  • Upgrading the existing sidewalks and curb ramps to meet ADA requirements
  • Replacing several existing entrances to improve the pedestrian walking paths to meet ADA requirements
  • Replace traffic signals at N. Hanley Road and Springdale Avenue/I-170 northbound ramps
  • Constructing a new sidewalk along Natural Bridge between Engler Ave. and Lada Ave.
  • ADA pedestrian signal upgrades at the I-170 southbound ramp
  • Pavement resurfacing on Bolbecher Rd.
  • Improve existing mid-block crossing west of Romona Ave. and evaluate new mid-block crossing east of Bel-Ridge Police Department.  Mid-block improvements will include
    • RRFB (Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon)
    • Lighting
    • Raised refugee island
    • Pavement marking and signage
    • Coordinating with Metro bus stops

What are the anticipated impacts during construction?

Most of the resurfacing work will take place overnight, with up to two lanes closed. Daytime work will include lane closures and some traffic shifts. Many of the entrances to businesses or subdivisions will be rebuilt in this project.

Is MoDOT purchasing property from landowners?

MoDOT will need to purchase some property and/or obtain easements in order to construct the additional sidewalks and ADA improvements.  A Right of Way representative will be contacting affected landowners to begin the acquisition process.

How much will this project cost?

This project is estimated to cost approximately $5.5 million.
