ROAD CLOSURE POSTPONED ONE WEEK: Route J to now close June 19, 2023

The Millers Creek Bridge on Callaway County Route J was built in 1959. The decks, or tops, of both bridges are in poor condition and are in need of replacement. This will improve the condition of the bridge, bring the bridge rails up to current standards, and extend the life of the structure.

Traffic Impact:  

Callaway County Route J will close at the bridge during its rehabilitation.  A signed detour over Route H, U.S. Route 54 and Route F will be in place throughout the duration of the project.

The Missouri Department of Transportation and its consultant designed a project to replace the bridge deck of the Millers Creek Bridge.

Contract Letting, Award & Notice to Proceed

The project went out for bids as part of MoDOT's February 2023 letting when contractors submitted competitive bids. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $779,613 contract to Gene Haile Excavating, Inc., during their March 2023. At that time, they gave the contractor a notice to proceed date of April 10, 2023. The notice to proceed is the earliest date the contractor may begin work.

Project Construction and Traffic Impacts

At this time, construction is planned June 12 19, through Sept. 5, 2023.

By contract, all work must be complete by Dec. 1, 2023. Once the contractor begins work, they have 85 days to complete the project or they may incur liquidated damages.

The road will be closed at the bridge for the duration of the project. A signed detour will be in place over Route H, U.S. Route 54 and Route F.
