Project Information

The project is located approximately 5.5 miles north of Kearney and 1 mile south of Holt.  For northbound traffic, project is located just after MO 33 turns east before Holt.

The existing culvert structure was built prior to 1920 and was likely originally constructed by the county.  The culvert was expanded in 1922 when MO 33 became part of the state highway system.  The culvert is 16 feet long by 19 feet wide and was originally 4 feet high.  Due to erosion and channel migration, the culvert structure is now 8 feet high which has led to the closure of MO 33.

The scope of the project is to replace a culvert structure built prior to 1920.  The new structure type is under design and will be selected to minimize construction time, right of way needs, and maximize structure life.

Traffic Impacts

MO 33 between MO Route CC and Burris Road near Holt and Kearney will be closed until the project can be designed, awarded, and replaced.

Detour

Motorists are advised to use Interstate 35 as a detour route.

Timeline

Construction cannot begin until any necessary additional right of way is acquired, and utilities are relocated.  Construction is expected to start summer 2025. Once construction begins, activities should be completed within a few months.

Budget

Construction is anticipated to cost $575,000.  Project is funded by federal and state funds.
