Upcoming Cape Girardeau County Bridge Replacements

The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to replace two bridges on Route D and Route 34 in Cape Girardeau County.

The projects include:

  • Replacing the Route D bridge over Cane Creek, located between Black Oak Trail and Indy Lane—northwest of Jackson, Missouri. Guardrail will be installed at the new structure.
  • Replacing the Route 34 bridge over Dillard Creek, located between Route U and County Road 370—southwest of Burfordville, Missouri. The project also plans to improve sight distance by updating the alignment of Route U and County Road 370 with Route 34. The roadway slopes will be flattened, and the guardrail will be replaced.

Work to replace the Route D bridge could begin as early as spring 2027. During construction, the roadway will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge for approximately four months. A signed detour will be in place from Route D to Route E to Interstate 55 to Business I-55.

Work to replace the Route 34 bridge could begin as early as spring 2028. The bridge will be constructed parallel to the existing structure to avoid closing the roadway. Temporary traffic signals will be in place to guide traffic through the work zone. Construction will be underway for approximately seven months.
