DELAYED: Resurfacing planned on Business U.S. Route 71

SAVANNAH, Mo. – A resurfacing project on Business U.S. Route 71 is scheduled to begin next week. The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Chester Bross Construction Company/Emery Sapp and Sons to complete the Business 71 resurfacing project which stretches from Main Street in Savannah to just south of Interstate 29. Crews will mill off the old surface and then lay down new asphalt through this area. Shoulder work is also included on this project.

The contractor now plans to begin Thursday, April 4, instead of Monday, April 1, as previously announced. They’ll start at the northern end of the project at Main Street and work their way southbound in approximately two-mile sections. One lane, each direction, of Business 71 will remain open at all times. Work will take place during daylight hours with crews working five days per week. Some work may occur on the weekends, if necessary to complete the project on schedule. A 14-foot width restriction will be in place throughout the duration of the project, which should wrap up by mid-May.

Traffic control and message boards will be in place alerting motorists of the work and planned lane closures. All work is weather permitting and could be rescheduled.

MoDOT encourages all travelers to slow down, especially in work zones, as there will be large equipment and workers near the driving lanes. As always, please buckle up, eliminate distractions, pay attention and drive safely so everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
