Safe and Sound Community Briefing Scheduled in Stoddard County

Upcoming Design-Build Bridges to be Discussed

SIKESTON- The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold an open-house community briefing to discuss upcoming Safe and Sound bridge improvement projects in Stoddard County.  The briefing will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Bloomfield School Cafeteria, 505 Court Street.

"Those interested in the upcoming projects can stop by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the project plans with a member of the Safe and Sound team," said Andy Meyer, Southeast Regional Field Engineer for Districts 6, 9 and 10.

Unlike the Safe and Sound community briefings held in 2009 regarding the quick start bridges, this meeting will address the design-build portion of the program.

There are 22 design-build bridges in Stoddard County.  Design-build bridge projects include total bridge replacements, unlike the quick start projects, which consisted of deck replacements.

Stoddard County bridge projects scheduled to be awarded in the upcoming months include:

·        S0846: Route E Buck Creek

·        T0393: Route E Drainage Ditch (District 4)

·        F0973: Route 114 Drainage Ditch

·        F1135: Route 114 Drainage Ditch

·        P0667: Route HH Little River Drainage Ditch

·        P0465: Route HH Drainage Ditch No. 41

·        X0831: Route Y LRDD Ditch No. 33

·        X0839: Route Y Little River

·        X0837: Route Y LRDD Ditch No. 1

·        S0743: Route 91 Little River

·        S0771: Route P Ditch No. 33

Work on some of the Safe and Sound bridges listed above is scheduled to begin as early as spring 2010.  Similar to the quick start projects, most of the design-build projects will also involve a road closure.

Once improvements are underway, MoDOT's contractor will complete the work on each design-build bridge in approximately 45 to 60 days, weather permitting.

"With most of the Southeast District's quick start bridges completed, we have designed a rigorous schedule that will have over half of the Southeast District's bridges under construction in 2010," said Meyer.  "We hope to deliver the 68 design-build bridges ahead of schedule, and complete District 10's portion of the program within 2 to 3 years."
