Basic Residential Relocation Under the Uniform Act Training Course Now Available

The FHWA has added the new NHI-141055 Basic Residential Relocation Under the Uniform Act training course to the National Highway Institute (NHI) catalog and is offering the course on three (3) occasions in 2023. The first offering will begin January 3rd and conclude January 20th. There will be two (2) additional offerings beginning on April 10, 2023, and October 2, 2023. The course consists of 8 hrs. of self-directed web-based training (WBT) lessons, and 15 hrs. of instructor led web-conference training (WCT) lessons.

The target audiences are representatives from Federal Uniform Act Agencies, State Departments of Transportation (SDOTs), Local Public Agencies (LPAs), and other interested persons.  This course is designed to build proficiency in understanding and implementing the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act (Uniform Act) Relocation Program and 49 CFR 24 requirements. Course participants will also engage in interesting case studies focused on application of the law and regulations.

Basic Nonresidential Relocation Under the Uniform Act training course:

The FHWA will be adding the new NHI-141056 Basic Residential Relocation Under the Uniform Act training course to the NHI catalog in April 2023, with offerings scheduled for the 1st week of May; the last week of September; and the 2nd week of December in 2023. The 14-hours of lessons for this course (7 hrs. of self-directed web-based training (WBT) and 7 hrs. of instructor led web-conference training (WCT)) are spread over six (6) business days. Each lesson is 1 to 3 1/2-hours in duration. FHWA will distribute a Gov delivery notice once registration for this course is available and will also be available at the NHI Course Search.

FHWA Appraisal Training:

FHWA’s National Highway Institute (NHI) is offering two new appraisal courses: NHI-141053: Foundations of Federal-Aid Highway Program Appraisals and NHI-141054: Practical Applications in Federal-Aid Highway Program Appraisals.  These courses are essential for appraisers who want to understand how to incorporate Uniform Act and 49 CFR Part 24 appraisal requirements into right-of-way appraisals.  The course “Foundations of Federal-aid Highway Program Appraisals (NHI 141053) is a seven (7) hour course that is self-paced and can be accessed at any time through the NHI website link at the bottom of this announcement.

The course “Practical Applications in Federal-aid Highway Program Appraisals (NHI 141054) is a seven (7) hour course that builds on the foundations developed in the first course and will be offered four (4) times in 2023.  Each session will have two instructors, one FHWA instructor and one independent contractor.  These sessions are offered on a first come-first served basis through the NHI website.  We are working to schedule this course on the following dates:

  • Early Spring –    March 28, 29, & 30 (1PM to 3:30PM each day)
  • Late Spring –     June 6, 7, & 8 (1PM to 3:30PM each day)
  • Summer –         August 22, 23, & 24 (1PM to 3:30PM each day)
  • Autumn –          October 24, 25, & 26 (1PM to 3:30PM each day)
