What is the situation?

The bridge over Hibler Creek, just east of Mason Road on Ladue Road, is old and needs to be replaced.

What are the anticipated impacts?

The quickest, and most effective way, to replace this bridge is to completely close Ladue, remove the bridge and rebuild it.  This will take about three months and can be done during the summer when school is out and traffic on this roadway is lighter.   Ladue would close to through traffic between Mason Road and I-270.  Local traffic would be able to get to Laduemont Drive from the west, and to Chaselle Lane from the east.

The bridge, barrier, sidewalk and fence will all be updated and replaced as a part of this project.

What other options were considered?

MoDOT did evaluate replacing the bridge half at a time.  Since Ladue Road is only two lanes in this location, that would require a 24-hour signal to direct one lane of traffic at a time through the work zone, and would significantly back up traffic on Ladue Road. In addition, the project would take significantly longer to complete, which would impact traffic into the fall, including school traffic.

What are the detours for this project?

Drivers can use I-270, Route 340 and Route 141 to detour around the closure during the summer months.  Local traffic can use Ladue Road as far as Laduemont Drive from the west, and Chaselle Lane from the east.

What is the expected timeline for construction?

Construction on this project is expected to begin on May 11, 2020 with all lanes reopened to traffic by mid-August 2020, before the new school year begins.
