I-44 Rebuild at MO 744/Mulroy Road - COMPLETED

Project Facts:

• Replace the concrete pavement on I-44 at MO 477/Mulroy Road interchange (mile marker 84)  in Springfield
• Extend both eastbound I-44 ramps and the westbound I-44 on-ramp
• I-44 median drainage improvements at mile marker 84
• Seal the MO 477/Mulroy Road bridge deck/driving surface over I-44

• Project will take approximately four months

Traffic Impacts:

• Phase 1: Beginning Friday, July 11
  • Eastbound I-44 on and off ramps CLOSED at Missouri Route 744/Mulroy Road (exit 84)
  • Ramps CLOSED up to 2 weeks
• Phases 2 & 3: Friday, August 5
  • Beginning Friday, August 5 for up to 26 days
    • Missouri Route 744/Mulroy Road Bridge CLOSED in Springfield
  • Beginning Monday, August 8 for up to 23 days
    • Eastbound I-44 traffic shifted up and over I-44 using the eastbound I-44 on and off ramps (mile marker 84)
  • All lanes of eastbound I-44 CLOSED at Route 744/Mulroy Road (exit 84) CLOSED
  • Drivers should expect traffic delays and narrowed lanes
  • When this portion is completed, ramps will be closed for up to 3 days as crews restripe to new traffic configuration
• Phase 4: August 10 - September 9 
  • Westbound I-44 on ramp will be CLOSED at Missouri Route 744/Mulroy Road (exit 84)
  • Ramps CLOSED up to 2 weeks
• Crews and equipment close to traffic in areas
• Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
• Drivers should look for an alternate route
• Signed detours include: U.S. Route 65 Southbound, Missouri Route 744/ Kearney Street, Mulroy Road
• Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.

This project also includes Chestnut Expressway Rebuild Project between I-44 and Broadview Place, which was completed June 17, 2022.

Estimated total project cost: $7 million  (Chestnut Expressway Pavement Improvement, I-44 concrete rebuild and MO 744/Mulroy Road bridge)
