Engineering - Transportation Planning

Transportation Planning is a diverse unit that plans, coordinates, and implements Missouri's transportation plan.  The unit oversees long-range transportation planning and policy development, and provides expertise in bicycle and pedestrian facilities, economic development issues, and air quality issues.  Transportation Planning develops and manages the Five-Year Statewide

Transportation Improvement Program, which is the state's highway and bridge construction program.  It administers various funding to cities and counties for activities like repairing and replacing bridges not on the state highway system.  Transportation Planning is also responsible for collecting and analyzing data about the state's highway system, including how it operates and its physical aspects.  The staff uses the data to provide information about traffic volumes, vehicle classification, and road-user costs.  This information helps guide MoDOT engineers in how best to maintain and improve Missouri's highways and bridges as well as how to make overall safety improvements to the transportation system.
