Engineering - Construction

Construction inspectors are involved in various phases of fieldwork; including, inspection, testing, and documentation.  These tasks ensure that projects are constructed according to the plans and terms of construction contracts.  Work is generally performed outdoors in varying weather and traffic conditions.

Construction inspectors are responsible for overseeing the construction of concrete and asphalt pavements, culverts and bridges, as well as traffic control setup.  Engineers may prepare as-built plans, change orders and generate contractor payment estimates.  Moving into supervisory positions, construction inspectors are involved in investigating job problems and managing construction projects.  Often, construction inspectors go on to become area engineers and are given the responsibility for all operations in a geographic area including construction, maintenance, materials, and traffic.
