Publications
The Aviation Section publishes an annual Missouri Aeronautical Chart and Airport Directory. Each are provided free of charge and are designed to assist pilots using Missouri's system of airports. You can pick one up at your local airport or contact MoDOT at 1-888-ASK MoDOT (1-888-275-6636) or email us at aviation@modot.mo.gov
Airport Safety Inspections
The Aviation Section performs airport safety inspections at all public use general aviation airports in Missouri. Airports are inspected once every three years. Inspections focus on identifying safety concerns such as obstructions in the runway protection zones, nonstandard lighting and pavement markings, and poor pavement conditions. Information from these inspections are also used in several aeronautical publications.
Grant Programs
The aviation section administers several state and federal grant programs for capital improvement and maintenance projects at public use airports. Click on the heading to learn more about these programs.
Planning
Missouri is one of ten states in the State Block Grant Program, which means that MoDOT acts on behalf of the FAA in certain circumstances. MoDOT is the approving authority for all airport master planning and airport layout plans for Missouri's general aviation airports. An airport master plan is a planning document used by airport owners and MoDOT to coordinate logical development of airport facilities. An airport layout plan is a visual depiction of all existing and planned airport development.
The Aviation Section also maintains a State Airport System Plan which takes a statewide view of Missouri's aviation system. The State Airport System Plan, along with the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems, are critical resources for reviewing and prioritizing applications for airport projects.
