Work Begins on Bridges at Taylor Interchange in Marion County

HANNIBAL – Travelers will soon see a lot of activity at the U.S. Routes 61/24 interchange in Marion County near Taylor as preparations begin for rehabilitation work on three bridges at this location.   Last fall, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the improvement project contract for rehabilitation of two bridges located on U.S. Route 61 and one bridge on U.S. Route 24 at the Taylor interchange 1.5 miles north of Missouri Route 6.

Phillips Hardy, Inc. was awarded the contract for improvements with the low bid of $1,754,744.   Work on the project will begin next week with all work scheduled to be completed by September 1, 2020.  There will be a sixteen feet width restriction in place for the work zone for the duration of the project.  The initial phase will include the closure of the southbound passing lane bridge on U.S. 61 over U.S. 24.

“As progress continues on the project, it will require the closure of the ramp from southbound U.S. 61 to eastbound U.S. 24 in addition to the ramp from westbound U.S. 24 to northbound U.S. 61,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Untiedt. “During these closures, there will be a 2.5 mile detour in place,” he added.  This phase is projected to begin sometime in May and last through September 1, 2020.

The two bridges in this contract located on U.S. 61 are included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

MoDOT will alert the public about the project through signs, news releases and social media.
