Resurfacing and Reconstruction Projects Awarded for Routes in Macon and Shelby County

MACON – The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently awarded a contract to Emery Sapp, of Columbia, Missouri, for projects in Macon and Shelby County in the amount of $6,632,692. The projects are as follows:

U.S. Route 36 (Shelby) – resurface eastbound lanes from west of Clarence to near Lakenan

U.S. Route 36 (Macon/Shelby) – resurface westbound lanes from west of Clarence to near Macon

Macon County Route O – reconstruct the pavement between U.S. Route 36 and Love’s Truck Stop

“The resurfacing projects on U.S. 36 in Macon and Shelby County will include a 2 inch overlay with paved shoulders, along with edge line rumblestrips to increase safety,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Untiedt. “The project on Route O will include milling out the existing pavement and replacing it due to extreme deterioration from large truck traffic,” he added.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zones while the work is completed. Short term closures of the interchange ramps are expected with Route O. The work could begin as early as this spring and should be completed before next fall.

“A more specific schedule on these projects will be shared after the contractor provides the plan for completing the work,” Untiedt added.
