I-64 Landscape Sponsorships
As a part of the new I-64 project, where MoDOT rebuilt 10 miles of Interstate 64 in the heart of St. Louis County, the department planted 3,400 trees, 6,200 shrubs and acres of new grass.
In an effort to protect that investment and to ensure the successful growth and care of these new plants, the Missouri Department of Transportation has developed a new landscape sponsor program for the new stretch of I-64 in St. Louis City and County.
The I-64 Landscape Sponsorship helps businesses invest in the area and help provide a welcoming front door to many of the communities in St. Louis. Businesses that sponsor a portion of landscape are also recognized on a sign at the sponsored location.
Sponsors can choose to sign an agreement with the department to maintain the landscape on an available location themselves, or pay a maintenance fee to maintain that location. MoDOT works with an administering company, Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc., who uses that maintenance fee to remove litter monthly and to contract local landscapers to mow and take care of plants.
The department has several locations along the I-64 corridor between Kingshighway and Spoede available for sponsorship. The available locations have a landscape sponsor sign, and a note to call MoDOT at 1-888-ASK-MoDOT to sponsor the area.
If sponsorships are successful along the new lanes of I-64, the department intends to expand the program to other interstates.
