Public meeting outlined I-44, Lewis Road bridge work
ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Department of Transportation held an informational, open-house-style public meeting March 12 to discuss an upcoming project on westbound Interstate 44 and Lewis Road.
This project includes bridge rehab work on westbound I-44 over the Meramec River and a deck replacement on Lewis Road over I-44. The project is scheduled to begin in spring and continue throughout the year. MoDOT will keep three lanes open on westbound I-44 during the daytime, although there will be lane closures at night and on weekends. Drivers can expect narrow, shifted lanes throughout the course of the work. There will be minimal impacts to eastbound I-44. For safety reasons, crews will have to close the westbound entrance ramp from Lewis Road to I-44 during construction.
On Lewis Road, crews will be replacing the bridge deck, which will require restricting traffic across the bridge to one lane during the first part of the project. MoDOT will put up signals on each end of the bridge to control traffic during that work, which should run through late summer. During the remainder of the project, MoDOT will keep both lanes open.
